Try Out Mathematics

Try this problem:
Root of this equation 2x2 - 6x - p = 0 are x1 and x2. If  x12 -  x22 = 15, the value of p is ...
a) 10     b) 8   c) 6   d) -8    e) -10

Solving:
From the equation 2x2 - 6x - p = 0 we can outline become:
( x  + x1)(x + x2) = 0 and from x12 - x22 = 15 we can outline so that: ( x1 + x2 )(x1 - x2)= 15.
From the base formula we know that x1 + x2 = (-b/a) or x1 + x2 =6/2 = 3
From other base formula we also know that x1 - x2 = (sqr (b2) - 4ac)/a
Then we can subtitute each other to get p value = 8
