Mathematical Tests Aren't Always Objective
On an examination, there are many kind of test model, the exact model for student with multiple choice answer and description model or essay model. Mathematic is a tool that can measure of person calculation ability exactly. But from my experience mathematical test also have very subjection scoring on essay mathematical test model, like other subject such as language, art, music, social and others.
On essay mathematical test model we can’t give score 0 and 100 but there are among of them depend on how to describe on solving the problem. Some teacher give this score very strict and just give score 0 and 100, even just wrong on the last calculation but with right description. Actually if the teacher want give score 0 and 100, they should make multiple choice problem, and if the student get different result, student will calculate again or re-describe of their problem solving. If teacher want to know of every student ability on how to solve the problem and want exact answer, teacher can make a question and must answer with a detail description and give alternative exact answer like multiple choice, so there are no wrong calculation because of less accuracy.
As an example of essay question is as bellow:
Prove it if: (x-y)2 = x2 – 2xy + y2
We have give the answer, and the student should describe how to get that answer, if there are wrong calculation so teacher can analyze if the student understood or not.
